SHADOW CRIMINALS EXHIBITION OPENING RECEPTION: AUGUST 09, 2003
Los Angeles, CA - July 25, 2003 - La-Fia House, announces the Shadow Criminals Exhibition, a multimedia event drawing together diffuse artistic methods. Through this show La-Fia House aims to create an environment where, sculpture, painting, music, jewelry, and contemporary cuisine come together to form a singular moment of artistic dialogue.
Drawing from the immediate community, Shadow Criminals, will be a showcase of underlying artistic energies, which drive the downtown art scene. The subtext, 'To be alive, yet asleep', is a commentary on the emergent artistic consciousness, which belies the normative social function of daily life. By combining divergent art forms, Shadow Criminals hopes to expose the audience to the art that makes up the fabric of their existence.
"We want to free ourselves from the conformities and conveniences that prevent us from achieving our natural state," says Shannon Towler, the lead curator for La-Fia House, "Success can only be measured by the enhancement of lives engaged rather than lives compared."
Painter Mark Hix is a contemporary artist who has created a 'gesture' imagery that transcends color, space, and sex. It is the imagery of existence. By combining intense deliberation, experimentation and obsessive craft, Mark Hix has imbued his present works with simplicity, calmness, and an overall dreamlike quality.
Glass sculptor Rafeal Gevokian channels his ambition to expand the limits of his imagination, and the limitation of his medium. He creates unique pieces using bold swatches of color, illuminating the dialogue between man and glass. "I feel as though the glass and myself are playing off one another-the strength of the glass in combination with my imagination letting go"
Rebecca Trujillo, a world based musician will be debuting songs off of her new album Munda, inspired by her travels through Europe, Israel, and India. The essence of her work is diversity: in culture, humanity and love.
In her first series of designs, Jewelry Designer Linda Parsley, captures the beauty of love discovered, and explores the essential qualities of the feminine: Confidence, Serenity, Glamour, Romance, and Style. Working with semi-precious and precious stones, and the finest Austrian Swarowski crystals, she honors the healing and symbolic properties of the natural elements of the earth.
Culinary artist Richie Stothard is saucier at the Water Grill, a fine dining establishment in downtown Los Angeles where seafood reigns. He has developed his own style of cooking, working with only the best raw materials and paring each dish down to its essentials. "I want to bring families back to the table and back to each other."
