Fraud and Deception—the American Way? Author Deborah Allen explores the ripple effect of embezzling in her new book The Prey of the Shadow.
Ft. Lauderdale, FL, October 2002— We have been deluged with news of corporate executives who have lined their pockets at the expense of employees and shareholders. When the Vice President of the United States is accused of defrauding the shareholders of a company he used to run (and he was accused the day after President George W. Bush called for tougher penalties to fight corporate corruption), we have to wonder…
It’s a “money for nothing” attitude that drains the economy and pummels the trust of the American people. All types of fraud, including embezzlement, will take their toll not only on the perpetrator, but also on family, friends, and associates. What happens to the people who are the closest to these white-collar thieves?
In Deborah Allen’s first book, The Prey of the Shadow, we meet Colleen Duncan who is about to experience the guilt-by-association accusations that are so often leveled against those closest to criminals. Allen exposes the reader to the nightmare that becomes a reality when a loved one commits the white-collar crime of embezzling. Crime does not exist in a vacuum, but spreads to entangle those nearest and dearest to the criminal.
Colleen becomes the target of a police investigation and menacing strangers when her fiancé Craig mysteriously vanishes. She is forced to face the ugly truth about Craig—he is a liar and an embezzler. Her link to a criminal makes her vulnerable to a system that wants to regain its loss, even if an innocent has to pay the price. The Prey of the Shadow, by Deborah Allen, is available through Llumina Press, a publisher dedicated to working with writers to take charge of their own publishing destiny.
