The KPOS solution comprises the Euro-compliant Retail Ovation point of sale application running on IBM SureOne EPOS terminals and Windows NT PC servers. The stores, ranging in size from 4 to 18 tills, are linked to Palmers’ head office using XcelleNet’s RemoteWare communications software also installed by KPOS. The EPOS terminals are thus linked with the KPOS head office system, which manages Palmers’ large storecard credit ledger as well as providing accounting and merchandise reports. With the new EPOS system, Palmers have added the capability to check customers’ account status at the till and capture storecard transactions automatically.

Palmers, established in 1837, is one of the oldest department store chains in the UK with stores in Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn, Dereham, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Chairman Bruce Sturrock is the current chairman of the Associated Independent Stores buying group.
