NEW YORK CITY (Monday, Sept. 15, 2003) – Internationally acclaimed makeup artist Karlo will be deftly balancing eyeliner and lipliner while directing the elegantly composed cosmetic sway backstage at the 7th on 6th Gustavo Arango fashion show, at the Bryant, Monday at 6 p.m. during Fashion Week in the Bryant Park tents.

Both raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, makeup master Karlo and designer Arango share a sophisticated aesthetic sensibility, a creative nurturing that has led the two artists to partner on similar creative projects in the past. Arango’s fashion style, unique and individual, focuses on refined references, fluid femininity with gowns of fine fabrics finished with meticulous detailing. Known for his light-handed/high-creativity balance in makeup application, Karlo echoes this aesthetic fluidity, using his make-up artistry to enhance and reveal a woman’s natural beauty, angles and curves.

For Arango’s runway show for Spring 2004, Karlo, sponsored by cosmetic visionary Shu Uemura, has designed a "mar Mediterraneo" ambience -- skin embraced by sultry sun, shining with health and a terracotta, gold or bronze patina. "A swift of mascara, a matte dab for wine-kissed lips, lidded eyes light on liner but heavy on chic detail," says Karlo of the look. This is the face of the woman, as brought to life by Karlo, who will imbue Arango’s resplendent evening gowns and ready-to-wear with a mystique that hints of St. Tropez, Sitges or Sardegna.

A make-up artist based in New York City since 1991, Karlo was the driving force behind the U.S. makeup launch of "Givenchy Beauté." In 1992, the cover of "W" magazine credited his makeup artistry, and Karlo’s career surged, encompassing a montage of celebrity, editorial and television entities, including covers for "Italian Vogue/ Vogue Pelle," Sportswear International, DNR, W-Men’s Portfolio and British Vogue.
