Parco Fiorito plays host to Tuscan Sun Festival artist Jon Klibonoff
September 4, 2004 -- For piano maestro Jon Klibonoff and Trio Solisti, their appearance at the August 2004 Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona Italy was like bringing the music of Brahms and Ravel back to its origin. The accomplished New York trio of violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach and Klibonoff on piano performed to an enthusiastic audience at the annual gathering of stand out classical artists.
Klibonoff was appreciative of both the audience and the black Steinway concert piano. “I have always savored the opportunities to perform classical music in the lands in which it was created. There seems to be an extra sense of appreciation from those who listen to it. The lovely Teatro Signorelli in Cortona was an ideal setting for the excitement of performing before an Italian public, says the veteran pianist. Set in author Frances Mayes storied Tuscan medieval hill town of Cortona, Klibonoff felt right at home. “Cortona is a quintessential Tuscan village – vistas that seem endless, filled with every shade of green, gold, and red. The food is familiar yet it feels reinvented once in your mouth”, states Jon.
While in Cortona, pianist Klibonoff along with wife Amy and children Noah and Madeline stayed at celebrated chef Roberto Russo’s Parco Fiorito. The organic Agriturismo of Charme, just 10 minutes from Cortona was the perfect place for Klibonoff to relax and keep his family content. With two swimming pools, an open air gym, farm yard animals, plenty of places to shade the sun and countless Tuscan trails to explore, Mrs. Klibonoff says Parco Fiortio is the perfect place for those who want their kids to enjoy Italy. “The fact that the children are appreciated and enjoyed by owner Roberto, son Giuseppe and staff is an amazing relief for parents. It is often hard to find a place that truly welcomes and opens their hearts to young guests. From the moment we arrived, I knew my children would be embraced and respected, that allowed me to relax and enjoy my time at Parco Fiorito even more” explained Amy.
The organic ingredients that make up each evenings four course meal are a central feature at Parco Fiorito. Served beneath an outdoor pergola adjacent to his 16th century luxury villa, chef Russo takes pride in sharing the fresh taste of organic products raised on his holiday farm. “Guests regularly recognize the unique freshness of each dish created from ingredients that follow strict Italian guidelines classifying Parco Fiorito an organic Agriturismo of Charme . They also taste the difference in our organic San Giovese wine and biological olive oil” says proprietor Russo.
Amy and Jon Klibonoff sat beneath the pergola for several of Russo’s traditional four course meals. “The freshness and pureness of the food was immediately evident. The tastes and aromas of all the different dishes were authentic and delicious. I have never had organic wine before and the lack of sulfites and other preservatives traditionally used in wine at home made the wine-drinking experience fantastic”, says Amy. Parco Fiorito attracts travelers from Europe, USA, Asia, Russia, Scandinavia and Great Britain which creates a true international gathering at the dinner table.
Russo looks forward to the 2005 Tuscan Sun Festival with great anticipation. “I have to salute Festival Director Barrett Wissman for his vision and creative knowledge in bringing the Tuscan Sun Festival to Cortona. “As a passionate fan of classical music, the 2004 Tuscan Sun Festival was memorable musical experience for myself and many of my guests” explains Russo.
